Brighton and Reading have witnessed the biggest increase in rent yield in the whole of the UK, according to research conducted by HSBC. Average yields in Reading have increased from 4.86% to 5.48%, and from 5.86% to 6.17% in Brighton in the last year.
This increase has largely been due to their proximity to London. As a result of London’s high prices, young professionals can no longer afford to live in the capital so choose to live in a more affordable area which gives them more space as well.
For those seeking to buy property, although the cost in both areas is still relatively high (especially for first time buyers), the increase in young professionals flocking from the capital has resulted in an increase in the numbers who choose to rent, and therefore has provided owner’s with considerable revenue.
